Anna University was constituted on September 4, 1978 as a unitary type of university.
Anna University is one of the prime institutions in South India. Perarignar Anna University of Technology (PAUT) was the original name applied in 1978. It provides higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences applicable to the current and projected needs of the society. It was convinced into an affiliating university, with about all engineering colleges in the state of Tamil Nadu.
