Assam University came into being in 1994 by Assam (Central) University Act, 1989. The University is placed at Silchar in South Assam, bordering Bangladesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Maghalaya, and Nagaland. Aim of Assam University is to disseminate and advance knowledge by furnishing instructional and research facilities. It has been accepted by University Grant Commission, UGC, and Government of India.
