Avinashilingam University for Women is placed at Coimbatore in the state of Tamil Nadu. It was pronounced a Deemed University by the Government of India beneath Section 3 of the UGC Act in June 1988. It is one of the biggest institutions in the nation giving Home Science teaching at all levels. It was the first women’s college to be conferred the position of independent by the University of Madras in June 1978. The position of Autonomy gave the College scope for academic freedom for innovations in teaching and research. It was antecedently famous as Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women.
