Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical
Introduction
Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (or CIFNET) is a marine studies centre placed at Kochi, India. It purposes to raise the standard of living and per capita income of the fishermen who depends on fishing for their livelihood. Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training was established in 1963.Maintained by the Fisheries department of the Government of India, the institute was set up to aid investigation and development in the field. The demand for organized training for the personnel intended for manning the fishing vessels was felt very much after the independency when motorisation and automation of fishing vessels were began. CIFNET the esteemed Institute of our country in its sort has been making these quality trained man-power for the last four decades for our country.
Courses
The Institute conducts two Regular courses for manning the larger fishing vessels viz. Mate Fishing Vessel Course and Engine Driver Fishing Vessel Course.
Mate Fishing Vessel Course
Engine Driver Fishing Vessel Course
Duration – both of courses have 18 months.
Eligibility – Pass in 10th Standard
Mode of Selection – By All India Entrance Examination
Age limit – 17- 20 years. Relax able for SC, ST for 5 years.

Employment Guidance Bureau
CIFNET runs an Employment Guidance Bureau at its Hqs. Kochi. CIFNET trainees who obtain respective competence certificates can register their names with the Bureau so that the Institute will be capable to direct them in getting employment.
