Co Operation and Civil Supplies Department Lakshadweep 2011 Recruitment
The Cooperative movement was put in Lakshadweep during the year 1962. The Lakshadweep Cooperative Marketing Federation and ten primary cooperative Supply & Marketing Societies have become the very back bone of island economy as far as marketing of Agricultural Produce (Copra) and distribution of essential commodities are related. The six Govt. Employees Cooperative Stores and Canteens in the islands are designed to meet the special requirements of its members who are Govt. There are about 55 different types of Cooperative Societies in Lakshadweep at present.
Public Distribution System (PDS)
The Registrar of Cooperative Societies has been announced as the Chief Civil Supplies Officer who over sees all the arrangements right from allotment, to lifting and distribution of Public Distribution organizations items throughout this Union Territory. Based on these allotment PDS items are being lifted from Central Agencies like FCI, IOC at Kochi, Calicut and Mangalore for transshipment to these islands.
Societies
The 10 Primary Cooperative Supply & Marketing Societies one in each island has been declared as the recount agent of the Lakshadweep Administration for the distribution of essential commodities. At present there are about 35 fair cost shops working under the Cooperative Supply & Marketing Societies which has a coverage of about 2000 people within the radius of about one to two KMs.
