Earlier famous as University of Cochin, the University came into existence in 1971 by an Act of the Legislature resultant to a cooperative campaign for caliber postgraduate teaching in the State of Kerala. Shakeup of the University into Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) saw the fulfillment of the inspirations of the groundbreakers that spearheaded the movement for constitution of a Science & Technology University in the State
