Dibrugarh University, the easternmost University of India was established in 1965 beneath the provisions of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965 enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly. It is a teaching-cum-associating University with limited residential facilities. The University is placed at Rajabheta at a distance of about five kilometers to the south of the prime town of Dibrugarh in the eastern component of Assam as well as India. Dibrugarh, a commercially and industrially advanced town in the full northeastern region also enjoys a specific place in the areas of Art, Literature and Culture.
