ESIC Employees State Insurance Corporation Act

The announcement of Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948 envisaged an incorporate need supported social insurance scheme that would defend the interest of workers in contingencies such as maternity, temporary sickness or permanent physical disablement, death due to employment injury resulting in loss of wages or earning capacity. The Act also insures reasonably best medical care to workers and their immediate dependants.

The Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESI) extends for health care and cash profit payments in the case of sickness, maternity and employment injury. The Act employment to whole non-seasonal worker factories run with power and hire ten or more persons and to those factories which run without power and utilize twenty or more persons.
