Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation Ltd. was instituted on the 10th June, 1974 as State Public Undertaking with the objective of marketing of fresh fruits and processing of all types of surplus fruits. Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory has originated the most modern system of marketing in the country
Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation Ltd has instituted two Fruit Processing Plants with a combined capacity to process about 20,000 MT of fruit every year and has acquired a third on lease hold basis . These plants are located at Jarol (Sunder agar) in Mandi District and Parwanu in Solan District.
Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory Corporation locked itself in the institution of pre & post harvest infrastructure, comprising of a net work of mechanically operated pack houses, cold storages, transshipment centres and fruits processing plants, besides a net-work of sales offices in the terminal markets. The state is successfully growing fruits such as apple, pear, peach plum, almond, walnut, citrus, mango, raisin grapes etc.
The Government of Himachal Pradesh has introduced the policy of Market Intervention Scheme for the procurement of Mango, Apple and Citrus Fruits in the State. In order to implement the Market Intervention Scheme of the State Government, the Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation Ltd. being the premier fruit marketing agency, procures the unmarketable fruits which are processed under most hygienic conditions in its Processing Plants.
The Corporation also pocketed International Food Award, 1985 and International America Award, 1986. These awards have been granted for Himachal Pradesh Horticultural Produce Marketing and Processing Corporation Ltd.’s distinguished role in the field of horticultural/agricultural produce marketing, processing, cold storing and export of fresh fruit and processed fruit products, apart from growth and evolution of economy of small farmers in Himachal Pradesh which is now known as the “APPLE STATE OF INDIA”.

What is the status of private fruit processing industries?
How do industries procure fruits from the farmers ?
Are their any producer groups or associations involved through which the produce is procured?
Is it a winning situation for farmers or not?
profit for the owners?
Scope for the upcoming of new industries and the expansion of old ones?
The fruit which is commomly processed?
