Hindustan Prefab Limited was incorporated in 1953. Hindustan Prefab Limited was earlier instituted as Hindustan Housing Factory Ltd., which was set up at the behest of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India for solving the housing problem created due to influx of refugees from West Pakistan. As years rolled by, the company came to be known as Hindustan Prefab Limited, the exchange in name being necessitated by diversification of its operations.
There is a private railway siding inside the factory and the heaviest of products can be loaded into railway wagons for shipment to sites. The factory is pollution free and is one of the ecological oases of Delhi with trees, water ponds, gardens and greenery. Hindustan Prefab Limited has a dedicated team of 500 employees which has 80 Engineers and other technocrats.
Hindustan Prefab Limited has manufactured fly ash bricks on a commercial scale, has propagated the use of fly ash as a building material in construction and has used prefabrication to a very large extent for timely completion of projects. It is renowned as a Company that completes its contracts on time and with superior quality. It pioneered the production of prestressed concrete railway sleepers which replaced wooden sleepers in Indian Railways.
Hindustan Prefab Limited has a modern factory in Jangpura, on its 28 acres factory premises, virtually in the heart of New Delhi. The factory has five specific departments as mentioned below:

1. C-I Deptt. For manufacturing railway sleepers and electric poles.
2. C-II Deptt. for manufacturing railway sleepers and pre-stressed bridge girders.
3. Vayutan Deptt. for manufacturing autoclaved aerated cellular concrete.
4. RCC Deptt. for manufacturing reinforced concrete products like fencing posts, water tanks, pavement slabs, kerb stones, Interlocking Solid blocks for pavements and for retaining walls, etc.
5. Wood work Deptt. For manufacturing door and window shutters from wood as well as from new materials like MDF.
