Hooghly Dock & Port Engineers Limited located at Kolkata, is one of the oldest shipyards in India. Hooghly Dock & Port Engineers Limited was instituted in 1819 in private sector and called as Hooghly Docking & Engineering Company Limited. Hooghly Dock & Port Engineers Limited is one of the oldest surviving Shipyards in this world. It is simply legendary, and has contributed immensely to the development of our Nation.
The Hooghly Docking & Engineering Company Limited Act, 1984, Government of India had nationalized the Company so as to apply the available infrastructure through necessary investment for modernization and increase the capacity for shipbuilding and ship repairing in the country.
Hooghly Dock & Port Engineers Limited is now totally centered and our bottomline is to serve being and prospective customers to their fullest satisfaction. We are also now fully geared to build energy effective and cheaper mode of river transport to be an integral part of development of river transport for vast potentials available to develop domestic Water Transport in the line of the thrust of efforts by the Central Government to develop waterways for navigation with necessary infrastructure such fairway, terminals, navigational aids and fleet so that Inland Water Transport can flourish and compete.
