Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad was organized in the year 1869 in the ruling period of the Nizam established the department for maintaining the basic infrastructural facilities of road and transportation. Under the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation act, 1955 a separate Municipality was produced for Hyderabad.
The name of this department has been replaced to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in April 2007 and institutes as one of the most important local governing body in the state government. The Municipal is in appointed of providing improved health and educational facilities.

It is the local government for the City of Hyderabad.
