IIT Madras is one of the top technological institutes of India. The Institute was established with the technical assistance of Germany. Indian Institute of Technology Madras was formally inaugurated in 1959 by Prof. Humayun Kabir, Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs. IIT Chennai is spread over a campus spanning 630 acres with nearly 460 faculty, 4500 students and 1250 administrative & supporting staff. IIT Madras has fifteen academic departments, nearly 100 laboratories, and a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of engineering and pure sciences.
