Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the prime engineering institutes of India. IIT Delhi is one of the seven IITs made as centres of excellence for more eminent training, research and growth in science, engineering and technology in India. The Institute provides instructions in engineering and applied sciences at a level comparable to the very best in the world. IIT Delhi was constituted in 1961. At that time it was famous as College of Engineering. The Institute was later declared an Institution of National Importance beneath the Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963 and was rechristened as Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
