IITK Surge
Under the Summer Undergraduate Research Grant for Excellence (SURGE) program, undergraduate students from IITK and other entering institutions undertake short length, but focused research projects and force their intellectual powers beyond those driven by the classroom. The length of the programme is 10 weeks beginning early May each year? Students working at IITK get a stipend. An award plus a commendation certificate is given to those SURGE students who produce exceptional caliber research during the period. After 2006, 83 Grants were provided to applicants from IIT Kanpur; out of which 23 were for internships in abroad universities. In addition, 96 students from the National Institutes of Technology around the nation and 16 students from participating overseas institutions came to IITK as component of the SURGE program.
SURGE overseas program for IITK students
In this program, IITK students in Second and Third Year undergraduate students, Fourth Year Dual Degree BTech-MTech or Integrate MSc Students, and First Year MSc students are given a specific chance to spend 10 weeks of the summer at one of four honored universities. The Universities for SURGE 2010 are California Institute of Technology (http://www.caltech.edu), Ecole Polytechnique (http://www.polytechnique.edu), Ecole Centrale de Paris (http://www.ecp.fr) and Rice University (http://www.rice.edu).
SURGE program for IITK students at IIT Kanpur
In this program, IITK students in their Second and Third Year undergraduate students, Fourth Year Dual Degree BTech-MTech or Integrate MSc Students, and First Year MSc students are given a chance to work with a preferred mentor at IITK. In order to finish the application, it is necessary for the student to identify a professor who agrees to be his/her mentor throughout the summer period, and a suitable project to pursue for the 10 weeks in summer. The deadline for this application is January 8, 2008. Applicants are requested to follow the instructions given in the ONLINE APPLICATION FORM, Mentor Form, and Recommendation Form.
SURGE program for Non IITK students at IIT Kanpur
Students studying in undergraduate programs (BTech, BA, B.Sc, MA, MSc, BTech-MTech dual, MSc (Integrated)) at chose institutes in India will be granted to pursue 10 weeks of research at IIT Kanpur in summer 2010.
