IITK Techfest

IITK organize the technical festival every year. This is popular as IITK Techfest.

On 28th January, IIT Kharagpur has the biggest fest it had ever seen, Kshitij 2010. The 12000 players would stand testament to this prodigious feat.

From just a thought some 7-8 years back, IITK Techfest is now one of Asia’s biggest Techno-Management Fest. With a broad variety of things to enter in, it was caliber of the competitions that took the lime light once again. From computer geeks to management leaders, there was something for everyone. A total of more than Rs. 50 lacs was given away as Prize Money to victors of events so that they could give shape to their marvellous ideas.

Ahead from the front in the Guest Lectures series this Kshitij was Shekhar Kapur, Padma Shri award winner and high film maker. His lecture on Creativity inspired all. Alongwith him was George Kourounis, tempest Chaser and Host of the popular television series ‘Angry Planet’. Kharagpur had never before seen such free feeling. Nobel Laureate Sir Anthony James Leggett, Robin Chase, one of Time Magazine’s top 100 most important personalities, Chris Phillips, The Invisible Man, Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, CEO and MD of Brahmos region and the Vice President of IBM ISL India, Dr. P. Gopalakrishnan absorbed the audience like none had ever before in IIT Kharagpur.

The Overnite ACM/ICPC 2010 Multi-Provincial Programming Contest, witnessed by ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) gets a huge amount of involvement, with Participants from institutions from all over the world. IMechE certified events like NightShift, Laws Of Motion, Nirmaan and SOE, definitely propagated the objective of making world a better place through engineering. ASHRAE’s Kryotech attracted the quality participation it deserves this year too. The ASME Student Design Competition was truly a sight to behold, with ASME officials looking on as pioneer Robotics innovation was showcased.

Technical Exhibitions and Workshops prepared the basis for the learning aspect of the fest. Interactive workshops encompassing a wide array of topics such as Autonomous Robotics , Rubiks Cube, 3D Animation, Patenting and Hot Air Ballooning, and enlightening exhibitions showcasing the novel Solar Car, Modular robots , Life size models of Bulwarks of Indian Defence by DRDO and the innovative Fog Screen were organized to whet the appetite of budding technocrats and management enthusiasts.
