Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was launched in 1994 by an act of parliament and its academic programme began in 1995.Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (commonly recognized as IIT Guwahati or IITG) is an independent engineering and technology-oriented institute of higher education instituted by the Government of India. The IIT proceeds to grow and diversify each year, while keeping its declared aim of bettering standards in education and research. IITG is officially recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.
