The Indian Law Institute (ILI) was established in 1956 primarily with the aim of encouraging and carrying on legal research. The aims of the Institute as laid down in its Memorandum of affiliation are to cultivate the science of law, to encourage advanced studies and research in law so as to meet the social, economic and other demands of the Indian people, to encourage systematization of law, to encourage and carry on investigations in legal and allied areas, to improve legal teaching, to give instructions in law, and to publish studies, books, periodicals, etc.
