Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata was founded on 17th December 1931 by Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis, the famous Indian scientist and applied statistician, who opened up the work on anthropometric variation in India. Prof. Mahalanobis, recipient of the Padma Vibhushan award by the Government of India, contributed conspicuously to the cause of industrialization and economic development of a newly independent India while working with his colleagues at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

Masters degree in Statistics or Masters Degree in Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engg. /Tech. or equal or PG diploma in SQC & OR from Indian Statistical Institute and (ii) Knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level and knowledge of Physics and Chemistry at Higher Secondary level
