The University of Kerala was originally the University of Travancore which was established in 1937 by an announcement of the Maharaja of Travancore, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma. He became the first Chancellor of the University. In 1957, beneath the Act 14 of 1957, Kerala University Act, the University of Travancore was called as the University of Kerala. It was the sixteenth University to be established in India and ten Colleges within the State of Travancore.

The student must have a master degree in relevant field with at least 55% marks from any recognized college university.
Admission Procedure
The admission is based on an entrance exam is carried by the university.
After the exam a personal interview is carried by the university.
