Maharashtra State Co-operative Tribal Development Corporation Limited has been founded in the year 1972 for the economic development of Tribals in Maharashtra State as per the Provision in Indian Establishment’s Article 46. This TDC came into universe and was implementing the plans for the tribal welfare much before the introduction of its parent department.

TSP AREA
The area under the Tribal Sub Program in Maharashtra is 50,757 sq. Kms. as against the full Geographical area of 3, 07,313 sq.Kms. of the State. This functions out to about 16.5 percent of the geographical area of the State.
ATSP / MADA / MINI-MADA
There are all told 47 Scheduled tribes in the state. The primary tribes in Maharashtra are the Bhills, the Gonds, the Mahadeo Kolis, the Pawras, the Thakurs and the Varlis. There are three tribes Viz the Kolams (Yavatmal District), the Katkaris (mainly in Thane and Raigad Districts) and the Madia Gonds (Gadchiroli District). Which have been advised as Primitive Tribes by the Government of India.
