Deemed University position has been allowed to two colleges in the name and style of Dr.MGR EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE (Deemed University) Chennai, by the Ministry of Human Resource Development and University Grants Commission, Government of India. Tmt.Kannammal Educational Trust was launched in the year 1985 with the aim of dissemination of know-ledge in the areas of Engineering Technology, Management, Medicine and Law. To achieve this aim Dr.MGR Engineering College, Chennai-600 095 was begun in the year 1988. A Dental College under the name of Thai Moogambigai Dental College also was begun in the year 1991.
