In the year 1949 The National Institute of Mental Health NIMH was founded and research is directed at a central campus in Bethesda, Maryland, as well as being financed throughout the United States. The Institute is part of the federal govt. of the United States and the biggest research association in the global specializing in mental illness.

National Institute of Mental Health NIMH is especially famous for studies of genetics, neuroscience, and clinical trials of psychiatric medication. It is one of the 27 component associations of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), which is in turn part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
