National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur is one of the premier engineering institutes of India. The institute was formerly known as the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur and was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as one of the eight such colleges. In 2002, the institute was accorded the status of Deemed University and was renamed as NIT Durgapur. NIT Durgapur is spread over a campus of 187 acres. The institute offers B.Tech. M.C.A., M.B.A., M.Tech. And Ph.D. programs. NIT Durgapur offers 4-year B.Tech program in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Metallurgical & Materials Engineering.
