The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India (once the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur), was founded beneath an Act of the Parliament of India in 1960 as one of the eight such colleges. It is a fully financed Technological Institution of the Government of India and is administered by an independent Board of Governors. In 2010, NIT-Durgapur will celebrate its Golden Jubilee Year (completing 50 years), NIT-Durgapur is one of the most former of 14-RECs launched between 1959 and 1965, and is one of the top six NITs.
