Introduction
P G I (Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences), Lucknow (India) is a University based under State Act in 1983. Institute is placed on a straggly 550 acres own campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km away from the main Lucknow city. Institute offers its own degrees, which are duly established by the Medical Council of India. The Institute is rated amongst the top medical institutions in the country, delivering state-of-art tertiary medical help, super-specialty teaching, training and research. Its mandate is to provide medical facilities, which have so far been nonexistent in the State or country and to carry out front, line research in areas of national relevance. The Institute has several unique features, which are distinct from other premier National Institutes.
Courses
Basic Course and Course on Biostatistics, and two optional courses from among those offered, including Scientific Communication, Clinical Decision Analysis, Research Methodology, Laboratory Instrumentation, Computer Applications, Biomedical Literature Search, Bioinformatics, Basic Immunology, Medical Physics, and Molecular Biology, etc.

The Institute has a well-prepared library with more than 16,000 books. The library subscribes to nearly 450 scientific journals. The library supplies facilities for loaning of library books and journals, photocopying, internet access for literature search.
Research
Publications in indexed national / international journals is a basic, compulsory necessity for DM and MCh programs. Thesis is a required part of MD programs. Curriculum is designed to integrate the themes of globalization, quality, comparative advantage, service, change, technology, and historical perspective, and to provide opportunities for the evolution of interpersonal abilities including leadership, oral and written communication and practical applications.
