This associating University commenced working from July 1988 and is ruled by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, Act, 1987. The university has the authority to allow affiliation to new medical and paramedical colleges. The University also encourages research and growth in the area of medical sciences and associated fields. Its aim is to formulate research services and to render for research and for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the area of medical sciences.
