Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement
Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement
All undergraduates must demonstrate competency in writing abilities at the upper division stage as a requirement for the baccalaureate degree within the California State University System. At San Diego State University, the Writing Placement Assessment (WPA) is utilized to assess that competency.
Scholars must take the WPA (Writing Placement Assessment). Once scholars are registered in Rhetoric and Writing Studies 280 or 281 or Linguistics 281, they may not get the WPA to test out of that class or an upper division writing course.
Scholars who do not take the exam through the end of the necessitated time frame will not be able to enroll for future terms. Scholars may stop out of the university one semester and maintain staying scholar position. If the exam is finished during the stop out term, the scholar may re-register the following semester.
Scholars are permitted to attempt the WPA twice within the timeframes and restrictions described above. Scholars may not drop a course in which they are enrolled if test results are accepted after the schedule adjustment deadline. Scholars must pay the necessitated fees for the exam each time it is taken.

Come to the SDSU scholar Testing, Assessment and Research Office during business hours (M-F 8:00 am – 4:30pm) and buy a ticket of admission. The fee for the WPA is $45.00.
