Indira Gandhi National Open University was launched in 1985 to democratize higher education. The University at present provides 125 programmes of study to a accumulative student intensity of over 14 lakh creating it the biggest single University in the world. IGNOU is a pioneer in Distance Education system. The purpose was to supply cost-effective quality education to big divisions of our population admitting those living in remote and far-flung areas. The University has covered its outreach outside the borders of the country also and as of now IGNOU extends programmes more than 35 countries including China.
