Students who wish to admission in B.Tech program provided by IIT Madras have to sit for the Joint Entrance Examination which is the common admission test for all IITs in the nation. The joint entrance test is directed in the month of April each year. Those who desire to seek admission for the postgraduate programs in engineering, technology, architecture and pharmacy have to sit for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). GATE is an all India level test. Students who want to apply for the management programs in IIT Madras have to sit for the Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET). JMET is the common exam that is directed for admission to the management program of all IIT’s and IISc. But students also have to apply separately to every institute for admission. For admission to several MSC postgraduate programs and and 3-year post B.Sc programs, prospective students require to sit for the Joint Admission Test (JAM).
