Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is the premier institute of engineering, science and technology. IITG is officially realized an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. IITG was based in 1994 and its academic program started in 1995.

Alcheringa festival is the largest cultural festival of the northeastern region of India. Alcheringa is the annual cultural festival of IIT G, generally held on the 1st week of February.
