The Govt. of the National Capital Territory of Delhi was founded the ILBS (Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences) Vasant Kunj as an independent institute, under the Societies act. The ILBS objectives to offer a healthy work environment to its faculty and staff.
The institute located at Vasant Kunj in New Delhi in India.
ILBS is a deemed university under the UGC act and it aspires to become a unique model for an academic career both for the domestic and foreign scholars and the faculty. The mission of ILBS is to become a devoted international centre of excellence for the diagnosis, management and progressed training and research in the area of liver and biliary diseases.
The 1st phase of ILBS is already working having 180 hospital beds, 74 of which cater as intensive care (ICU) beds. The 2nd phase of Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences, likely to be operational through early 2011, will add a devoted multi-stories research complex, guest-house, hepato-biliary oncology unit, auditorium, additional beds and residential accommodation.

As a 1st, ILBS (Deemed to be University), has applied to the medical Council of India, for permission to begin the following post doctoral courses:
DM-Hepatology
McH- Hepato-Pancreato-biliary surgery
The course time period for these 2 courses would be 3 years and would add comprehensive training in the area of diagnostic and therapeutic hepatology, endoscopy, and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery. The 1st batch would be taken in after a nationwide, objective type written test and a viva-voce type departmental interview, in the year 2010.
