The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR)was founded by an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. Located at Goregaon (east),the institute is at 20 minutes distance by public bus from the Goregaon railway station in Mumbai suburban railway system and 30 minutes drive from Mumbai’s national and international airports. It is an enhanced research institute accredited through the Reserve Bank of India for hauling out research on growth issues from a multi-disciplinary points of views. The Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research is a research institution devoted to encouraging scientific research on the developmental issues facing India.

The Placement Cell at IGIDR furnishes a platform for students seeking recruitments to act with potential recruiters on the campus. It coordinates the placement procedure on campus and assures a smooth procedure directed through a imparted set of rules and principles. Since the inception of the Placement Cell,it has seen 100% placement of its students. The Placement Committee heartily invites corporate firms, banks, research establishments, government institutions and non-government institutions to be a part of the Placement procedure at Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research.

IGIDR offers the following academic programmes:
M.Sc. programme in Economics.
M.Phil./Ph.D.programme in Development Studies, which has an interdisciplinary perspective, with major emphasis on economics.
