The Regional Centre of Ahmedabad was founded in 1988. Began with few Study Centers, today there are 60 Study Centers, Special Study Centers, and Programme Study Centers providing to the educational demands of several groups throughout the Gujarat State. The University has been an innovator in Distance Education and the receiver of the Centre of Excellence in Distance Education award awarded by the Commonwealth of Learning. IGNOU is conscious of the arising demand for continuous skills up gradation, capacity building, retraining and the importance of life long learning.
The university extends 129 Certificate, Diploma, Degree and Doctoral programmes containing approximately 1100 courses. Its overall priority is to assure the right to education for all and to furnish new and alternative learning possibilities. Improved and advanced information and communication technologies have opened up new horizons for growth and development. The university is prescribed to encourage, organize and regulate the measures of education provided by open and distance learning in the nation.
