The University of Kalyani was founded in the year 1960 and has developed onto a comprehensive institution with strong bases of administration and qualified faculty towards the mission of advancement of learning and research.
The University, with the help of Distance Education Council, IGNOU and other Universities of West Bengal has set up Directorate of Open & Distance Learning (DODL) at Post Graduate level for the students who are otherwise deprived of higher education and as such doing as a light house of the learning persons of all ages and sex, especially to such persons who for dissimilar reasons, cannot undergo the higher courses of studies as regular full time students.

Two year P.G. Courses leading to the M.A. Degree in (i) Bengali, (ii) English, (iii) History and (iv) Public Administration & One year P.G. Diploma Courses in Environment Management and Mass Communication & Journalism.
