Mithila University was launched by a regulation in 1972.Lalit Narayan Mithila University or LNMU Darbhanga is a teaching-cum-affiliating University. It has been accepted by University Grant Commission (UGC) in 1986 on history of its performance in furnishing education and training. The university has under its jurisdiction several component colleges as well as attached colleges. The Mithila University commission was established with Dr. Amarnatha Jha as the President and Pandit Harinath Mishra as the General Secretary.
