National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped established in the year 1984. NIMH is located in Lajpat Nagar. NIMH provides two years Diploma Course in Special Education (Mental Retardation), recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India. The NIMH main is to develop models of care and rehabilitation in the field of mental retardation and promote human resource development incidental to the activities of the Institute.
