NSC is functioning since 1963, under the control of the Ministry of Agriculture of Government of India. It attempts production, treating and selling of agricultural seeds. Its product range includes cereals, pulses, oilseed, fodder, fiber and vegetable crops. NSC initiated the growth of Indian Seed Industry on scientific lines with its interest in the expression of seed certification measures. Its seeds are measured for quality standards by autonomous seed authentication authorities besides internal quality controls and research lab tests in its own ISTA recognized Seed Testing Laboratory.
There is a broad range of tests that can be contained out on seeds. Most seeds are generally tested for sprouting and vigor, diseases, purity, genetic traits and general seed health for quality assurance. Seeds for exportation need to be tested to check if they satisfy fixed quality measures. Corporation functions regular preparing courses to refresh the knowledge of seeds men from India as well as overseas. It also holds a Consultancy unit to provide services in all the aspects of seed development.
