Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) is a government-possessed lignite mining company in India. One of the public field undertakings, the company is entirely possessed by the Union Government (49 %) and administered by Ministry of Coal. NLC works the biggest open-pit lignite mines in India and mines some 24 million tones of lignite per year for fuel, with an installed capacity of 2490 MW of electricity per year. Of this, the origin state of Tamil Nadu takes 1167 MW, with the neighboring states (Kerala, Karnataka, and Andra Pradesh) consuming most of the rest.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) was registered in the year 1956 and the procedures began the next year. NLC is one of the contributing companies in lignite mining and power production. The established capacity of the NLC in power production is 2490 MW. The lignite mines in Neyveli are open cast and bear a capability of twenty-four million tons a year. Eight 7% of the lignite reserves in the nation come from Tamilnadu. The Central Government has 49 % of the stakes in the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited and it comes under the control of Ministry of Coal.
