The greatness and quality of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is by no means an accident. launched in 1962 as the University of Ife but rechristened through the Federal Military Government as the Obafemi Awolowo University on May 12, 1987, in honour of one of its most distinguished launching fathers and eminent nationalist, politician, lawyer, stateman and former chancellor, Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo.
The Distance Learning Programme apply a multimedia technology that encourages electronic instructional delivery mode (e-learning), as well as autonomous learning or correspondence. The technology allows the transmission and reception of lectures and instructional packages in form of text, graphics, audio and video formats and viewed online through students in classroom settings at remote receive centers. With easy-to-use internet access software (such as Knowledge Environment for Web-based Learning-KEWL, The Distance Learning is programme-paced and a compromise between learning autonomy and rigid direction through the intructors with set dates when a program begins and ends, including a number of fixed date events within each program e.g fixed dates for the events such as, assignment submission, face-to-face tutorial sessions, the start and end of on-line conferences, telephone tutorial and examinations.
