Rajiv Gandhi University was launched in 1996 at Mysore (originally) and transferred to Bangalore in 1998, as per the directions of Karnataka State Legislature. The institution was called in the memory of Rajiv Gandhi, the former prime minister of India. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is situated in Bangalore. It is a self-comprised, state university. The university was launched under the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Act of 1994.The university has been sanctioned by University Grant Commission (UGC), but is not funded by UGC grants.
