Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, originally famous as University of Saugar, was constituted on 18th July 1946 by Dr. Harisingh Gour by the savings of his lifetime. Sir Hari Singh Gour, who was born on Nov 26, 1870 and died on Dec 25, 1949, was a great patriot, philanthropist, educationist and social reformer. To honour him, the State Legislature called the University of Sagar as Doctor Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya in February 1983.placed five km east of Sagar city; Dr Hari Singh Gaur University (Vishwavidyalaya) has one of the most picturesque campuses in India.
