The Institute moved to its new building in Bidhannagar in the eighties late. Biophysics Division also completely relocated to the campus Bidhannagar. The Institute is headed by a board headed by the chairman of the Committee on Atomic Energy of India. Palit Research Laboratory utilized under the Department of Physics, University of Calcutta. Multiple experiments in nuclear physics and instrumentation had begun the Laboratory of Biophysics Palit had moved into the new building once it was complete.
