Shivaji University, launched in 1962, is called after the Great Maratha Warrior and beginner of the Maratha imperium Chhatrapati Shivaji. In 1962 the University began operating with 34 affiliated colleges and about 14000 students with 5 Post-graduate sections on the campus. The University gives education in 10 major faculties of Arts, Social Science, Science, Commerce, Education, Ayurvedic Medicine, Fine Arts, Law, Medicine, Engineering and Technology.
